Okinawa, the home of Ryukyuan performing arts, has preserved a variety of colors that have been passed down from ancient times. When we ask people living outside Okinawa or overseas about Ryukyu Buyo, most of them often picture the striking red Hanagasa flower hats and colorful bingata-dyed costumes. Combined with this, the beautiful sounds of traditional instruments played gracefully evoke the nostalgic winds of the days when it was called “Ryukyu”. The remark able range—from the refined elegance of court performances to the lively and heartfelt expressions of everyday people—is the excellence and charm of Ryukyu Buyo. It is a rare and special privilege for us to present Ryukyu Buyo here in Indonesia, so far from Okinawa. We hope our performance brings the spirit of Okinawa to you, and that you enjoy the show with us. Thank you.
